When Disconnecting Is Actually the Right Thing to Do

Last month, I had the joy of attending TEDxPortland as a guest in the audience—what an inspiring experience!
One talk in particular stayed with me: it was about Australia’s new Right to Disconnect law.
Yes, you read that right.
Australia passed a law that says employees are not obligated to respond to calls or emails after hours.
Can we pause for a moment and breathe that in?

In a world that celebrates hustle, this is a revolutionary pause. It’s a powerful message: You have the right to protect your peace.

As someone who teaches mental fitness and resilience, I couldn’t help but think—what if we didn’t wait for a law? What if we chose to honor our own boundaries? To lead not just by productivity but by presence?

Disconnecting doesn’t mean you don’t care. It means you care enough about your well-being to show up better when you’re back.
Let’s champion the joy of the pause, the power of saying “not right now,” and the strength it takes to rest.
Your mind deserves it. Your heart needs it. And your champion within? It thrives in the quiet too.
I am going to prioritize that! What about you?

Until next time,
Be Positive, Be Yourself, Be the Champion you want to see!

PS: I speak on resilience, communication, and how to cultivate intentional leadership that leaves others feeling seen and supported. Want to explore bringing this message to your team?

Cheering you on always,
