What comes to mind when you hear the word choose? For many of us, it’s the everyday decisions:
  • What to wear
  • What to eat
  • What to say

The Deeper Choices That Shape Who You Are

But deeper down, there are choices that define the direction of our lives—how we show up in the world, how we treat others, and, perhaps most critically, how we treat ourselves.

When Choice Isn’t Always Possible

Now, I want to pause here. Because I know that not everyone has the privilege of choice in every matter.
When I think of people who lived through the Holocaust, or those enslaved or persecuted, or individuals in communities stripped of their rights—the idea of “choice” can sound naïve or privileged.

You Are the Product of Your Choosing

I’ve come to believe—no, to know—that we are the product of our choosing. Even in the moments when we feel powerless, there is often still a whisper within us that says: You get to choose your response.

Choice as a Gift and Responsibility

But for many of us, especially in the Western world, choice is both a gift and a responsibility. One that asks us to listen inward—to hear the still, small voice that says, This way.

The Invisible Cost of Avoiding a Choice

Years ago, I faced a moment of deep internal conflict. I was successful on the outside—recognized, respected, accomplished. But inside, something didn’t feel right.

The Stories We Tell Ourselves

I had a choice to make.
And I avoided it for months.
I told myself stories:
  • “This is the stable path.”
  • “Other people are counting on you.”
  • “What if you leave… and fail?”
Sound familiar?

The Price of Avoiding a Choice on the Path to Becoming Your Own Champion

Eventually, I realized that avoiding a decision was a decision in itself. And it came at a price—my peace, my joy, my alignment with my own values.

When I finally chose to walk away from what no longer served me, it wasn’t easy. There were tears. There was fear. But there was also clarity. And that clarity lit a fire that became this book.

Clarity Begins in the Soul

Choosing is more than a mental exercise. It begins in the soul. A fleeting thought becomes a feeling. The feeling becomes a conviction. And the conviction turns into a step forward.

Clarity as the First Courageous Act

Whether you’re choosing to change careers, end a relationship, forgive someone, move cities, or simply speak your truth—clarity is the first courageous act. It’s the moment you pause long enough to hear what your life is trying to tell you.

Temporary Choices vs. Eternal Choices

In Choose to Be Your Own Champion, I make a distinction between temporary choices and internal, eternal ones.

Why Clarity Matters in Becoming Your Own Champion

Choosing what coffee to order or what shoes to wear? Important, sure—but not life-altering.

Choosing to become a parent? To adopt a mindset of compassion? To leave a job that no longer aligns?

These are eternal. They echo through time, shaping the lives of others in ways we may never fully see.

That’s why clarity matters.
Because the clarity we bring to a decision determines its integrity.

The Hebrew Wisdom Behind “Choose”

In Hebrew, the word for choose—בָּחַר (bachar)—shares a root with other powerful words:
  • Chaver (friend)
  • Cherev (sword)
  • Chibur (connection)

The Deeper Meaning for Your Champion Journey

Choosing connects us to others. It can cut away what no longer serves, like a sword. And it calls us to become better friends to ourselves and to the people around us. Clarity, then, is not just about understanding. It’s about aligning with truth—and having the courage to live from that place.

A Question for You

What’s one choice you’ve been avoiding?

And what might shift if you allowed clarity to lead you instead of fear?
Take a moment. Breathe. Listen.
The answer is already within you.
